Privacy Policy

Effective September 25, 2026

Liftkin is a strength training app where you log workouts and compete with friends on how much you improve. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and how to delete it.

What we collect

Account

Your email address and password, or, if you choose Sign in with Apple, the account identifier and email Apple shares with us (which can be a private relay address that hides your real email). Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form; we cannot see them.

Face ID

If you turn on Face ID sign-in or Face ID lock, your iPhone checks your face itself. Liftkin never receives or stores your face data. For Face ID sign-in, your email and password are saved in your iPhone's Keychain on this device only, protected so that only Face ID (or your passcode) can unlock them. Turning the setting off or deleting your account removes them.

Profile

Your display name, username, experience level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced), weekly workout goal, and, if you add them, a profile photo and a short bio.

Training

Workouts you log: exercises, weights in pounds, reps, set order, notes, and start and finish times. The app calculates an estimated one rep max from each set to measure your progress.

Social activity

  • People you follow and who follow you, and anyone you block.
  • Squads you create or join, weekly matchups, and squad challenges.
  • Direct messages you send and receive.
  • Gyms you join, your home gym, whether you appear on a gym's leaderboard, and gym check-ins (which gym and when).
  • Reports you file about other people or messages.

Location

When you open the gym map or check in, Liftkin asks for your location while the app is in use. It is used on your phone to show nearby gyms and to confirm you are within 500 meters of a gym before a check-in is saved. We do not store your coordinates or track you in the background. To find gyms, the app sends your approximate position to OpenStreetMap's public search service; see "Services we use" below.

Apple Health (optional)

If you choose to connect Apple Health, Liftkin asks iOS for permission to read your sleep, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, steps, and active energy, and to save the workouts you log in Liftkin to Apple Health. You pick exactly which types to allow on Apple's permission screen, and you can change that at any time in the iPhone Settings app under Health, Data Access and Devices. Liftkin copies daily summaries (for example, total sleep for a night or average heart rate variability for a day) to our database so it can calculate your weekly Sleep and Recovery scores. We never read individual heartbeats or detailed medical records.

Data from Apple Health is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared with data brokers or other third parties, and never used for anything other than the sleep and recovery features you see in Liftkin. It is not shared with other people in raw form; see "Who can see what" below.

Oura (optional)

If you choose to connect an Oura ring, Liftkin receives your daily sleep, readiness, stress, heart rate, and activity summaries from Oura through Oura's official API, only after you approve access on Oura's sign-in page. We use this data only to show your recovery trends and calculate your Sleep and Recovery scores. We never sell this data or use it for advertising. You can also revoke access from your Oura account.

Sleep and Recovery scores

Your weekly Sleep and Recovery scores are calculated from your own data compared with your own recent baseline. Friends and squads see only those two weekly numbers, never your sleep times, heart data, or other health details, and only if you turn sharing on for each score. Sharing is off until you turn it on. The scores are for motivation and are not medical advice.

Photos and camera

Only when you choose a profile photo. The photo you pick is resized on your phone and uploaded; nothing else from your library is accessed.

Who can see what

Liftkin shows each kind of information only to the people who need it.

InformationWho can see it
Name, username, photo, bioAnyone signed in to Liftkin, unless you have blocked each other. Profile photos are stored at a web address that anyone with the exact link can open.
Workouts and setsYou. Friends see that you finished a workout and how many sets it had.
Weekly Improvement ScoreYou, your friends, and people in your squads. Also members of a gym whose leaderboard you chose to join.
Health data from Apple Health or OuraOnly you.
Weekly Sleep and Recovery scoresOnly you, unless you turn on sharing. Then people in your squads see the score, and nothing else.
Gym check-insYou and your friends only.
Home gymYou, friends, and squadmates, or anyone signed in if you joined that gym's leaderboard.
MessagesYou and the person you are messaging. We may review a message if someone reports it.
Followers and following countsAnyone signed in.

Only friends (mutual follows) and squadmates can message you. Blocking someone hides you from each other in search, suggestions, leaderboards, and messages, and removes any follows between you.

How we use it

  • To run the app: save your training, calculate scores, and show leaderboards, matchups, challenges, and your activity feed.
  • To deliver messages between you and other people.
  • To keep Liftkin safe: review reports and act on accounts that break our rules.
  • To respond when you contact us.

We do not use your data for advertising, sell it, or share it with data brokers.

Services we use

These providers process data only to run the features described here.

  • Supabase hosts our database, sign in, and photo storage.
  • OpenStreetMap (Overpass API) receives your approximate location when you search for nearby gyms, and returns gym names and addresses. It does not receive your name or account.
  • Apple Maps displays the gym map inside the app, under Apple's privacy policy.
  • Apple Health (only if you connect it) provides the health summaries you allow, on your iPhone, under Apple's privacy policy.
  • Oura (only if you connect a ring) sends your daily sleep, readiness, stress, and heart rate summaries to Liftkin under Oura's privacy policy.
  • Sign in with Apple, if you use it, confirms your identity with Apple and shares only your name (the first time) and the email you choose.
  • Apple distributes the app through the App Store and TestFlight. If you install a TestFlight beta, Apple may share crash reports and feedback you choose to send.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while your account exists. To delete it, open Social, tap Edit profile, then Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, photo, workouts, check-ins, follows, messages you sent, and any health data from Apple Health or Oura. If you created a squad with other members, ownership passes to another member so their squad keeps working.

To delete only your health data, open Social, tap Edit profile, then Health and devices, and disconnect Apple Health or Oura. Disconnecting stops syncing and deletes the data Liftkin stored from that source. Workouts Liftkin saved to Apple Health stay in Apple Health, where you control them.

Deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for a limited time before those backups expire. Reports you filed are kept only as long as needed to handle them.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections. Database rules enforce who can read and change each record, so the app cannot show another person's private information even by mistake. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting you, we will tell you.

Children

Liftkin is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices

  • Edit your profile, photo, and bio at any time.
  • Turn gym leaderboards on or off for each gym.
  • Allow or deny location, camera, and photo access in iPhone Settings. Liftkin keeps working without them; only the matching features stop.
  • Turn Face ID sign-in and Face ID lock on or off in Liftkin under Social, Edit profile, Security.
  • Connect or disconnect Apple Health and Oura, and turn score sharing on or off, under Social, Edit profile, Health and devices.
  • Block or report anyone from their profile or a message.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion by email.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Liftkin uses your data, we will update this page and its effective date, and tell you in the app for significant changes.
